The president of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Engr. Leye Kupoluyi, has charged business owners and managers to pay adequate attention to the integrity of their business transactions and practices, environment, climate actions and social sustainability.
He also enjoined them to be committed to the core principles of high ethical standards, global best practices, and responsible corporate citizenship. He spoke on Thursday in Lagos during the induction of new members into the chamber.
He told them that the chamber has a code of business ethics to which all members are to subscribe.
According to him, the chamber engages in public policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement and trade promotion activities, adding that the chamber has dedicated resources and energy to consistently promote and protect private enterprise development, commercial and industry activities to foster global competitiveness of the Nigeria economy.
Kupoluyi stated that the goal of the chamber is “to promote and protect the interest of its members and the business community at large through public policy advocacy, creation and facilitation of commercial and industrial opportunities, provision of business development service and observance of the highest standard of business ethics”.
He urged them to key into the vision of founders of the chamber in order “preserve the cherished legacy of impeccable, impartial, and faithful service to all.”
According to him, in the quest and resolve to continue to play leadership roles in the in West Africa, the chamber in the year 2020 bagged the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 certificate thereby becoming the first chamber of commerce in West Africa sub-region to be ISO certified and the second on the continent of Africa.
Kupoluyi told them that the chamber has been strengthened to consistently provide services that meet the needs and expectations of customers and stakeholders to catalyse private enterprises and organisations to achieve full potential in terms of sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
He charged the new members to actively participate in activities of the chamber.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs Olajumoke Fashanu, Chairperson of the Membership and Welfare Committee, LCCI, said that membership of the chamber confers special benefits such as access to accurate and timely information, and access to foreign investors.
She also said that the advocacy by the chamber directly and indirectly impacts their businesses, adding that the chamber intervenes and resolves disagreement and conflict between members and government agencies.
The Membership and Welfare Committee chairperson also said that membership of the chamber gives credibility to members, adding that the new members should to actively participate in chamber to benefit from the chamber’ work,
The Director-General of the chamber, Dr. Chinyere Almona, urged the new members to pay their dues promptly adding that they take advantage of the training and advisory charges that the chamber offers.
