The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Mas’ud Doguwa, says the party is open to alliances with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections at both the state and national levels.
Doguwa disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday, saying the NNPP was willing to work with like-minded political parties in pursuit of its electoral goals.
He said the party remained focused on strengthening its structure and expanding its political reach ahead of the next election cycle, adding that strategic alignments could become necessary in the interest of the party and its supporters.
According to him, the NNPP would not rule out political collaboration if such an arrangement would advance its objectives in Kano State and across the country.
“We are open to alignment with other political parties ahead of the 2027 elections, both at the state and national levels. Politics is about interest, consultation and building consensus, so we are ready to work with others where necessary,” Doguwa said.
The state chairman, however, dismissed a faction led by a rival group within the party, insisting that it lacked legitimacy and accusing its leader, Abia, of working for the All Progressives Congress.
He alleged that the faction was being used to create confusion within the NNPP and weaken the party’s structure in Kano State.
“That faction is not part of us. As far as we are concerned, they do not represent the NNPP. We know what they are doing and who they are working for,” he said.
Doguwa further alleged that Abia was acting in the interest of the APC rather than the NNPP, adding that the party’s recognised leadership in Kano remained intact and fully in control of its affairs.
“He is working for the APC. That is the truth. We know those behind the moves and we are not distracted by them,” he added.
The NNPP chairman expressed confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that it remained a relevant political force in Kano despite recent defections and realignments in the state.
He said the party would continue consultations with stakeholders and supporters as part of efforts to reposition itself for future electoral contests.
