NSCDC FCT Commandant Seeks Residents’ Cooperation On Protection Of Public Infrastructure

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, PhD, has urged residents of the FCT to play active roles in protecting public infrastructure.

The call is in respect of the campaign against vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure by the Corps, especially infrastructural upgrade by the Federal Government across the capital city, a statement by the FCT CDPRO, DSC Monica Ojobi, said on Monday.

He said the diverse developmental projects of the government which are dividends of democracy, require absolute protection not only by NSCDC that is saddled with the responsibility but every resident of the FCT to ensure that they serve us better.

Odumosu, who reiterates that security is every Nigerians responsibility, maintains that there is need for residents of the city to have a sense of ownership of these infrastructure which will compel them to protect them adequately.

“Security operations are intelligence-driven, therefore, we as an agency rely heavily on credible information from members of the public, a lot of you turn blind eyes when ever vandalism is perpetrated around you, it is wrong – it is your responsibility to be proactive once such crime is sighted by reporting promptly to us through our hotlines 08159066244 or 09166229882,” Odumosu stated.

He said as a result of the fact that vandalism poses a serious threat to national development, the Corps is not treating the issue of vandalism with kid gloves.

“As the lead agency responsible for protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), we remain committed and ready to respond swiftly following credible information from you”.

“We cannot allow criminal elements to sabotage the efforts of the government aimed at bettering the generalty of the people of the FCT.

“I want to make it clear that the FCT is no longer a safe haven for vandals. You either desist from these criminal acts or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.

“We are maintaining 24-hour surveillance across the territory, and anyone apprehended for vandalism of public infrastructure will be prosecuted according to the law.

In the same vain, the FCT Boss, calls on operators of Private Guards Companies (PGCs) to avail the Command with credible intelligence report, stating that these intelligence, will in no small measure assist the Corps in the protection of these vital facilities.

The FCT helmsman, said the Command is poised to sanctioning all Private Guards Companies (PGCs) operating with fake documents, invalid or expired licenses.

He frowned at the behaviour of some operators of PGCs, who have refused to comply with the laws guiding their operations, stating that he will not tolerate any excuses.

“Any private security company operating in the FCT without valid licence is doing that at their own peril because in no time our enforcement team will catch up with them”.

The Commandant also revealed that surveillance of PGCs is ongoing in several parts of the territory for effective enforcement, saying that the Command is currently compiling names of companies that have violated the law and will move into full enforcement once that action is completed.

He charged operators operating with expired licenses or fake documents to do well to visit the FCT Command to update their documents and licenses or risk being arrested and their companies sealed.
