Osun First Lady Named Malaria Ambassador, Urges Use Of Free Insecticide Treated Nets

The first lady of Osun State, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, has appealed to pregnant, nursing mothers, parents, and residents to embrace the use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets.

Mrs Adeleke made the plea on Wednesday while delivering her acceptance speech after her investiture as the Osun State Malaria Ambassador held at the Local Government Civil Service Commission Hall of the state secretariat, Abere.

The first lady reaffirmed her commitment as the Osun State Net Ambassador to supporting health initiatives and interventions that promote and enhance the sound well-being of the citizens.

She noted that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has scored high in improving public health with stellar records.

The First Lady applauded the Federal Ministry of Health through the National Malaria Elimination Programme, the Osun State Ministry of Health, and Roll Back Malaria partners for the initiative, describing it as a life-saving intervention designed to protect families, particularly pregnant women and children, from the devastating effects of malaria.

She noted that “malaria remains one of the most prevalent public health challenges in Nigeria despite being preventable.”

She therefore called on residents to actively participate in the exercise by making themselves available for registration and distribution, while ensuring that the nets are properly used in their homes.

She pledged to utilise every available platform to create awareness on the importance of sleeping inside the insecticide-treated nets.

“As the Net Ambassador for Osun State, I promise to use different channels and resources to disseminate messages on the use of the insecticide mosquito nets to ensure that families protect themselves from mosquito bites by sleeping inside their nets every night.

“By the grace of God, I will work with other stakeholders to ensure that children no longer die of malaria, no pregnant woman has miscarriage or give birth to low-birth-weight child due to malaria and generally reduce the burden of malaria in Osun State.

“I urge you, the people of Osun State to make yourselves available at home, provide correct information to the mobilizers and distributors, be registered and given nets. The mobilization and distribution period is from 4th to 8th June, 2026,” Mrs Adeleke said.
