Sunshine Stars Mourn Ex-Coach, Lawrence Akpokona

The management of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure has expressed deep sorrow over the death of its former coach, Mr. Lawrence Akpokona, who passed away during a brief illness.

In a statement signed by the Media Officer of the club, Isaac Afolabi, and made available to journalists on Saturday, the Chairman of Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Divine Ogbonnaya, lamented the untimely death of the Apkokona.

He described the late coach as a dedicated professional whose contributions and sacrifices to the Sunshine Stars FC when in the saddle would never be forgotten.

Ogbonnaya stated that Akpokona, who managed several clubs in the Nigerian domestic league, played a significant role during his time with the Akure-based club.

He stressed that his name would remain etched in the history of Sunshine Stars FC.

The ODSFA chairman, therefore, prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul, extending his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPL), and stakeholders in the football community.

Lawrence Akpokona served as the coach of Sunshine Stars FC in 2003, guiding the team through a transitional period before the appointment of a substantive head coach.
