The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has formally granted site access to Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, MESL, operator of Kainji Hydro Power Plant, to commence the construction of two new bays at the Kainji Transmission Substation.
The physical handover of the site was conducted on Friday, 5 June 2026, to enable MESL to begin civil, electrical, and mechanical works, testing, and commissioning.
Upon completion, the 2x330kV bays will provide 220MW capacity for evacuating power from MESL’s new 2x110MW turbines into the national grid. The project is being executed wholly by MESL at no cost to TCN and is scheduled for completion by December 2026.
