His appeal followed protests by some APC members in Akure over the list of candidates submitted by the party’s national leadership to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Supporters of the lawmaker representing Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency, Abiola Makinde, also staged a demonstration after his name was omitted from the final list.
Speaking with journalists in Ondo on Friday, Akintomide dismissed fears that the disagreement could weaken the party’s chances in the election, describing the situation as an internal issue that would be resolved through dialogue.
He urged party members to respect the decision of the APC National Working Committee, stressing that the principle of party supremacy should prevail over personal interests.
According to him, there is no reason for members to join protests or be influenced by narratives circulating on social media that contradict the party’s official position.
Akintomide said post-primary disagreements were common in politics, noting that those who felt dissatisfied had the right to express their concerns but should ultimately put the party first.
He expressed confidence that the APC would overcome the current disagreements and present a united front ahead of the elections.
”The APC has done so much for this country that we cannot afford to lose the forthcoming election. I believe all members, supporters and candidates will come together and work as one. Our victory is certain, and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election is also certain,” he said.
Also speaking, the APC candidate for Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency, Jimi Odimayo, urged party members to support all candidates who emerged from the primary elections, saying the APC remained one united family despite the competition during the primaries.
Odimayo commended President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Working Committee and the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for their roles in the primary process.
He called on members to set aside their differences and work together to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 general election, insisting that unity remained the party’s greatest strength.
