President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the revitalisation and renaming of the Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology. The President said the decision was taken in recognition of the contributions of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua to Nigeria’s democratic development and national unity. He described the former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters, as one of the architects of modern democratic Nigeria whose vision of national partnership helped shape the country’s democratic journey. As part of activities marking Democracy Day, the President also paid tribute to pro-democracy activists and announced national honours for several individuals who played significant roles in Nigeria’s democratic struggle. The newly renamed General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology is expected to focus on specialised training in geological sciences, petroleum studies and engineering technology.
