Prince Abubakar Audu University Launches Rehabilitation Initiative for Students Involved in Anti-Social Activities

The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, says the institution has established a Committee on Behavioural Change and Cult Renunciation to identify, counsel and rehabilitate students involved in anti-social activities.
Usman disclosed this during an expanded security stakeholders’ meeting attended by security agencies, traditional rulers, university officials and representatives of the host community to review measures aimed at improving safety within and around the university.
According to the vice-chancellor, the initiative will provide an opportunity for affected students to renounce unlawful associations and adopt responsible behaviour. He warned that individuals who continue to engage in criminal activities would face legal consequences.
Usman also said the university had acquired security vehicles to strengthen efforts against cultism and other criminal activities. He explained that one vehicle had been assigned to the Joint Security and Anti-Cultism Squad, while the other would support the university’s security patrol team. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies, traditional institutions and community leaders to maintain a safe environment for teaching, learning and research.
Speaking at the meeting, the Onu Egume and Head of Okura District, HRH Simon Ochimana, commended the university for involving traditional rulers in its security initiatives. He said community participation would enhance intelligence gathering and strengthen efforts to improve security around the institution.
