“Under Tinubu, insecurity has worsened” – Peter Obi speaks on Oyo school abduction, compares to Jonathan’s era

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised the Federal Government’s response to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, saying more urgency and commitment are needed to secure their release.

Speaking during an interview, Obi expressed concern over the handling of the incident, arguing that the government’s response has not matched the seriousness of the situation.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should have personally led the delegation sent to address the crisis.

“President should have led the delegation to Oyo. I don’t think the Nigerian government is showing enough commitment to the rescue of the kidnapped Oyo school children and teachers, and it is very worrisome,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor also compared the current security situation with previous administrations, noting that school abductions have continued despite public outrage over similar incidents in the past.

He recalled how the international community reacted during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan when a major school abduction occurred, attracting widespread condemnation.

Obi further compared the record of former President Muhammadu Buhari with that of the current administration, insisting that the situation has worsened.

“Under former President Buhari, in eight years, there were 10 school abductions. Under the present government, in three years, it has already surpassed,” he claimed.

The former presidential candidate maintained that stronger leadership and greater commitment are needed to address the growing security challenges facing the country.
