ocial media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), became the centre of online discussions after rumours emerged claiming he had been arrested following a protest against insecurity in Abuja.

The speculation gained momentum across social media platforms shortly after the activist participated in the June 12 protest held in the Federal Capital Territory. The demonstration also attracted the support of Nollywood actor Emeka Ike, who appealed to authorities to take urgent action over the country’s security challenges.

“Pease don’t let this go too far. It might be your children tomorrow. Our children may not be there today, but somebody’s child is there. Please, let’s stop this killing,” Emeka Ike said during the protest.

As concerns mounted online over the alleged arrest, human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju moved to address the rumours.

In a brief statement shared via his social media pages in the early hours of June 13, Adeyanju dismissed the reports, stating:

“VDM not arrested.”

The update quickly generated reactions from supporters and followers of the activist, many of whom expressed relief while others weighed in on the broader significance of the protest movement.
