•Commissions OSHIA Multipurpose Hall
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday, flagged off the free enrolment of traditional rulers and their queens into the Osun Health Insurance Scheme.
The governor also commissioned the newly completed Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA) multipurpose Hall, describing the facility as a strategic investment in healthcare delivery and institutional sustainability.
The events which took place at OHIS complex, Abere, attracted dignitries which included the deputy governor of the state, Prince Kola Adewusi, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and the Senator representing Osun West, Lere Oyewumi.
Others include the Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, the Timi of Edeland, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, Orangun of Oke Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin and the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola.
Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke said the enrollment and commissioning underscored his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare for all residents of the state.
Adeleke, who presented OHIS cards to the monarchs, noted that the free enrolment for royal fathers was a bold step to ensure they have access to healthcare without financial hardship.
Speaking further, Adeleke reeled out some of the achievements of his administration across sectors since assuming office.
According to him, “Over 300 kilometres of roads have been constructed, over 200 primary healthcare centres rehabilitated, over 150 schools rehabilitated, ongoing payment of salary debts and pensions, and almost two billion naira released for cooperative financing.
“Others include the distribution of new tractors and farm inputs to farmers, and the ongoing construction of a five-star stadium. Our administration has delivered across the sectors and so many other deliveries of good governance.”
The governor noted that he deserved to be re-elected based on his performance in office, urging Osun people to vote the Accord Party in the forthcoming August 15 gubernatorial election.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of OSHIA, Dr Rasaq Akindele, said the enrolment of royal fathers and their queens was to deepen community ownership of the scheme.
“Across our State, Royal Fathers are the custodians of our culture and trusted voices. By enrolling them, we are empowering them to serve as ambassadors for social health insurance at the grassroots,” he said.
Dr Akindele stated that the Multipurpose Hall was an investment financed from the Agency’s statutory reserve fund, in strict conformity with the Osun Health Insurance Scheme Law, which empowers OSHIA to reinvest in viable, income-generating ventures.

According to him, the Hall is conceived as a modern conference, training and stakeholder engagement centre that will reduce dependence on rented facilities and generate huge Internally Generated Revenue to support the expansion and sustainability of health insurance coverage.
Dr Akindele added that the project was executed through direct labour and local content, with materials and artisans sourced predominantly from within Osun State to stimulate the local economy and ensure value for money.
The OSHIA boss listed several interventions by the Agency under the Adeleke administration to include, “The distribution of multimillion-naira medical equipment to accredited health facilities across the state, and the deployment of a 4D Fully Automated Ultrasound Machine to a government secondary facility to improve maternal and fetal care.
“The enrolment of Persons with Disabilities, Persons Living with HIV, and state pensioners into the scheme. For PWDs, the Agency provided assistive devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, hearing and visual aids, as well as POS terminals and seed funding under its Economic Empowerment Programme to promote self-reliance.”
Other programmes mentioned include the Statewide School Eye Health Programme for pupils in public schools, the enrolment of inmates in correctional centres, and the Medical Assistance Initiative that provides financial support to enrollees with catastrophic, life-threatening conditions.
