Aderibigbe Advocates Tougher Building Regulations In Nigeria, Says Property Remains Key

Chief Executive Officer of Entrepreneur Breed Networks Limited (EB Properties), United Kingdom, Dr. Sunday Aderibigbe, has said property investment remains the most reliable pathway to wealth creation, while calling for stricter enforcement of building regulations in Nigeria.
Speaking on the role of real estate in wealth generation, Aderibigbe said his company helps clients build and multiply wealth through diversified property portfolios across short, medium and long-term investments globally.
“Property is the pathway to wealth. If you want to be wealthy, make sure you have at least one property,” Aderibigbe said. “At our company, we use property to help people make and multiply their wealth by engaging in different property portfolios both in the long, medium and short term globally. We source property for clients for the sole purpose of using it to generate income.”
Turning to Nigeria’s property sector, the UK-based property entrepreneur expressed concern over what he described as weak enforcement of building standards, which he said has led to frequent demolitions and losses for developers and homeowners.
“Regarding property development in Nigeria, the building regulation is very poor. It causes a lot of problems and that is why you see that some houses are built and in no time government wants to demolish it,” he said.
Aderibigbe cited the United Kingdom’s approach as a model, noting that due process and technical checks are mandatory before construction begins.
“The building control team has to be day-one tight. In the UK, there must have been soil investigation before embarking upon building,” he said.
He urged Nigerian authorities to strengthen oversight from the earliest stages of development to prevent structural failures and avoidable demolition exercises.
“So, government needs to tighten up building regulations,” Aderibigbe added.
