A former First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, has performed a groundbreaking for a computer science complex to be constructed at Al-Qalam University, Katsina.
The construction is being funded through proceeds from the launch of the book, “Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari.”
At the ceremony, Aisha said the donation represented more than the construction of a building, noting that it was the fulfilment of a vision to equip future generations with the knowledge and digital skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
She said the funds realised from the launch of the book were being channelled into the construction of the complex, transforming the legacy of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari into an enduring educational institution.
“This computer science complex stands as a lasting testament to the enduring legacy of our late leader, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. The proceeds from the book ‘From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari’ are being transformed today into an institution of learning and innovation,” she said.
According to her, the most meaningful memorial is not one built solely with concrete and steel, but one that nurtures knowledge, character and opportunity for generations to come.
Aisha Buhari noted that as technology increasingly drives global development, investments in computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software engineering and digital innovation are essential for national progress.
She expressed confidence that the new complex would inspire excellence, produce graduates with integrity and competence, and foster innovations that will contribute to the development of Katsina State, Nigeria and Africa.
The former First Lady also commended all donors and supporters whose contributions made the project possible, saying leadership is ultimately measured by the opportunities created for future generations.
She thanked the Katsina State Government, the management of Al-Qalam University, traditional rulers, distinguished guests and members of the host community for supporting the initiative. She prayed for the successful completion of the project.
The Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Professor Nasiru Musa Yauri, has described the family’s donation of the Computer Science Complex as a landmark intervention that will transform digital education and practical learning at the institution.
He expressed gratitude to the family of the late former President, led by former First Lady Aisha Buhari, for donating the facility as a legacy project in honour of the late Nigerian leader.
He said the complex will include two 156-seat lecture halls, the university’s first 200-seat auditorium, three computer laboratories equipped with 50 computers each, and offices for 20 academic staff furnished with computers and other essential facilities.
