Sokoto ADC Supporters Dump ADC, Join APC By Nicholas Dekera The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a major political breakthrough in Sokoto State as thousands of supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) defected to the party in Gorau Town, the political stronghold of Hon. Bashir Usman Gorau, member representing Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The mass defection, which took place in Gorau/Takakume Ward of Goronyo Local Government Area, is regarded as a significant setback for the ADC in Sokoto East Senatorial District, coming from the home base of one of the party’s prominent elected officials. The defectors were formally received at a colourful rally attended by party leaders, stakeholders and supporters, who described the development as a demonstration of the APC’s growing popularity and increasing public confidence in the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State. Welcoming the new members, the APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Sokoto East, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Sarkin Alaru, assured them of equal rights and opportunities within the party. He stressed that the APC remains a progressive platform committed to inclusive leadership and the development of Sokoto State. He also commended the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau, for his grassroots mobilisation and dedication to the welfare of the people, noting that his efforts had played a vital role in expanding the party’s support base in the area. Speaking at the rally, Alhaji Hussaini Gorau attributed the growing wave of defections across the state to the people-oriented leadership of Governor Ahmad Aliyu and the enduring political influence of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko. He said the administration’s investments in road infrastructure, rural development, agriculture and security, as well as its fight against banditry, had continued to improve the lives of citizens and attract more people to the APC. Also speaking, the APC Chairman in Goronyo Local Government Area, Alhaji Sa’idu Muhammad Goronyo, urged the new members to remain loyal, united and committed to the ideals of the party in order to consolidate its growing dominance across the local government. Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Nasiru Mukhtar Gorau said their decision to join the APC was informed by the visible achievements of the Ahmad Aliyu-led administration, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, improved security and the provision of essential social amenities to rural communities. The Kwara South Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Olalekan Adewoye, has paid the medical bills of two indigent patients who had been incurring monthly medical expenses amounting to ₦3.8m.
The intervention ensured the immediate discharge and continued care of the patients, who had been weighed down by the financial burden of their treatment.
During his visit to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), Ilorin, Adewoye also extended additional support of ₦1m to other patients admitted to the ward to assist with their feeding and other immediate welfare needs.
The intervention brought visible relief and renewed hope to patients on admission.
Speaking on the purpose of his visit, Adewoye stated that true leadership and genuine wealth are measured not by personal possessions but by the positive impact they make on the lives of the less privileged, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare.
He emphasised that extending compassion and support to those in need is a fundamental responsibility of every leader committed to the wellbeing of society.
Adewoye prayed for all the patients in the hospital, asking God to grant them divine healing from above, perfect health and speedy recovery to reunite with their families.
The atmosphere in the ward was transformed with joy as patients, their families and hospital staff expressed profound gratitude, offering heartfelt prayers and words of appreciation for Prince Adewoye’s generosity and kindness.
Medical personnel at the hospital commended Adewoye for the gesture, describing it as a significant humanitarian contribution that would go a long way in supporting indigent patients and encouraging others to emulate such kindness.
