As part of efforts to deepen the professional knowledge and operational competence of its students, the Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS), Tego Barracks, Apapa, Lagos, on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, conducted a study tour of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Apapa, Lagos, for students of the Second Quarter Courses.
The study tour, led by the Acting Commandant, Brigadier General David Umaru.
The NAIS delegation was received by officials of NIMASA on behalf of the Director General and Chief Executive Officer, led by Mr Kabiru Bello. The visit was designed to expose the students to NIMASA’s strategic role in promoting maritime safety, maritime security, search and rescue operations, as well as enhancing maritime domain awareness in Nigeria.
During the engagement, officials of the Agency delivered comprehensive presentations on NIMASA’s statutory mandate, operational capabilities and emerging challenges within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The students were also briefed on the Agency’s Command, Control, Communication, Computers and Intelligence (C4i) Centre, which serves as a critical platform for maritime domain awareness, operational coordination and timely response to incidents within the nation’s territorial waters.
Speaking during the visit, the Acting Commandant stated that the evolving nature of contemporary security challenges requires intelligence personnel to possess a comprehensive understanding of threats across all operational domains, including the maritime environment.
He noted that exposure to strategic institutions such as NIMASA enables intelligence professionals to better appreciate the nexus between maritime security, critical national infrastructure, economic activities and national security.
Brigadier General Umaru further emphasized the need for sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing and mutual trust among security, intelligence and other relevant government agencies in enhancing national security.
He added that such engagements remain vital in developing highly professional and adaptable intelligence personnel capable of effectively supporting joint and inter-agency operations in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interests.
The study tour underscores the NAIS’s commitment to providing students with practical learning experiences that complement classroom instruction while fostering stronger institutional partnerships in support of national security.
The tour ended with exchange of souvenirs and group photograph to commemorate the tour.
