The African Telecommunications Union(ATU) has elected its new Secretary Normal, Mr.Mwale Kezias, from the Republic of Zambia.
Kezias’ victory was introduced on the weekend, after the fourth spherical of voting for the place of Secretary Normal on the just-concluded seventh Convention of Plenipotentiaries in Abuja.
He has changed the previous ATU Secretary Normal, Mr. John Omo, who has served out his eight-year tenure in workplace.
34 out of 41 registered member states solid ballots.
He defeated candidates from South Africa, Cameroon and Congo who contested within the election.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Kezias expressed gratitude to Member States for his or her belief and to the Authorities of Zambia and President Hakainde Hichilema for his or her assist.
He paid tribute to fellow candidates, noting that their participation demonstrated the depth of expertise throughout the continent.
Citing the African proverb, “If you wish to go far, go collectively,” he known as for unity in advancing ATU’s mission, stating that the victory “belongs to each Member State and to each African who believes within the transformative energy of digital applied sciences.”
Outlining his priorities, he pledged to serve with impartiality, integrity, transparency, and dedication.
His focus areas, in line with him, embody increasing inexpensive and common connectivity; selling digital inclusion for ladies, kids, and individuals with disabilities; strengthening cybersecurity and digital resilience; fostering innovation and digital abilities growth; and amplifying Africa’s voice in regional and international digital coverage.
“The ATU stands at a defining second,” he mentioned. “Our continent has the expertise and dedication to form its personal digital future.
“Our duty is to make sure that no nation, no neighborhood, and no citizen is left behind.”
The brand new Secretary Normal has been elected to serve for the primary time period of 4 years.
The election marks a brand new chapter for ATU because it advances its mandate to harmonise telecommunications coverage, drive digital transformation, and strengthen Africa’s voice in international ICT governance.
