The Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Emmanuel Inyang, has expressed concern over the plight of indigent students in their pursuit of higher education and has therefore disbursed bursary funds worth N34 million to support their education.
Under the bursary scheme, 100 postgraduate students received N100,000 each, while 480 undergraduate students received N50,000 each to support their academic pursuits.
The chairman said the initiative forms part of his commitment to educational advancement as captured in his EMMANCIPATION Blueprint initiative, which, he said, aligns with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno-led administration in the state.
Speaking during the disbursement ceremony held at the council headquarters in Mkpat Enin, Engr. Inyang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making education a priority, noting that “investing in education remains one of the surest ways of securing the future of Mkpat Enin.”
He stated that “the bursary programme is designed to ease the financial burden on students and their families while encouraging academic excellence among young people in the area.”
The chairman noted that his administration has continued to implement several educational support programmes, including the payment of educational grants to students, sponsorship of JAMB candidates, support for Law School and Medical students, ICT training, and the distribution of educational materials to public schools.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude to the council chairman for the gesture, describing the bursary as timely and impactful, noting that the support would go a long way in assisting them with tuition, research, and other academic expenses.
