Details of NSA Ribadu’s Meeting With Top US Officials Emerge

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has met with senior officials of the United States government as both countries seek stronger collaboration to tackle growing security challenges across the country.
The meeting took place during a visit by a high-level US delegation led by the newly confirmed Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia. The visit marked Garcia’s first official trip to Nigeria since taking office earlier this year.
Discussions centred on strengthening security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, particularly at a time when many parts of the country continue to face attacks from terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups.
Ribadu said the engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to review the progress made under the Nigeria–US Joint Working Group and assess areas where further cooperation is required.
According to him, the talks reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen collaboration on issues relating to security, intelligence sharing and other mutual interests.
“The meeting strengthened the strong and enduring Nigeria–US partnership and assessed the progress of our Joint Working Group.
“We restated our shared commitment to deeper dialogue, cooperation and mutual security priorities”, Ribadu stated.
The latest engagement comes amid increasing concerns over insecurity in several parts of Nigeria. Armed groups have continued to launch attacks on communities, leading to deaths, displacement of residents and destruction of property.
Kidnapping for ransom also remains a major challenge in some states, with victims frequently targeted along highways, in rural communities and even within urban centres.
Nigeria and the United States have maintained security ties for years, with both countries working together in areas such as counterterrorism, military training and regional security initiatives.
The meeting is expected to further strengthen those efforts as authorities continue to search for lasting solutions to the country’s security challenges.
