The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zone RS8, has launched a three-day Special Intervention Patrol, codenamed “Operation Kasolayo” (Safe Arrival), aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and ensuring safer travel across Kwara, Ekiti and Kogi states.
The operation, approved by the Corps Marshal, commenced on Monday and will run until Wednesday, July 22, 2026, covering major highways, critical corridors and identified crash-prone locations within the three states.
Speaking during a press briefing at the FRSC Zonal Headquarters in Ilorin, the Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Ann Oladayo, said the intervention followed the outcome of a six-month road crash analysis conducted between January and June 2026.
According to her, the findings revealed that most road crashes recorded within the zone were caused by human errors, making stricter enforcement and public enlightenment imperative.
She explained that the operation is designed to tackle dangerous driving habits and improve compliance with traffic regulations in order to safeguard lives and property.
Oladayo disclosed that enforcement teams would focus on offences such as overspending, dangerous and reckless driving, overloading of passengers and goods, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the use of worn-out tyres and other traffic violations that contribute significantly to road crashes.
To ensure effective implementation, she said the command had deployed about 1,500 officers and men, supported by 50 patrol vehicles, two heavy-duty tow trucks, one light tow truck, patrol motorcycles, as well as ambulances and rescue equipment strategically positioned for rapid emergency response.
She added that mobile courts would sit throughout the operation to facilitate the prompt prosecution of traffic offenders.
The Zonal Commander appealed to motorists, commercial transport operators and other road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel by obeying traffic rules and regulations.
She stressed that the primary objective of Operation Kasolayo is to save lives and ensure that every traveller reaches his or her destination safely, assuring the public that personnel deployed for the exercise would remain firm, fair and professional.
Oladayo also urged members of the public to report road emergencies or traffic violations through the FRSC toll-free emergency line 122 or the Zone RS8 Command and Control Centre.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the FRSC Zone RS8 Command to enhancing safety on highways across Kwara, Ekiti and Kogi states through sustained enforcement, prompt rescue services and continuous public education.
