The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, committed no wrongdoing by reconciling with his political camp, insisting that the governor had no alternative but to return to the political family that produced him.
Wike stated this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing road projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister dismissed suggestions that Fubara’s return amounted to forgiveness after years of political disagreement, saying politics should not be viewed in terms of wrongdoing.
According to Wike, there was nothing wrong with a politician admitting mistakes and choosing to correct them.
He said, “In politics, there is no sin. If someone realises they made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that. Politics is not a sin. What matters is recognising that you were on the wrong path and making the right decision.”
Wike recalled that he had earlier predicted Fubara would return to the same political structure that supported his emergence as governor.
He welcomed the reconciliation, saying all members of the political family were ready to work together for the progress of Rivers State.
The FCT minister also said Fubara’s return would strengthen efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said the governor’s public declaration of reconciliation showed that he had returned to where he started, adding that the group would work together to deliver the needed support for Tinubu’s re-election.
Meanwhile, Wike’s comments came as he inspected major road projects in the FCT, including the ISEX Road Corridor and the nearly completed Apo-Karshi Road.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the ISEX Road, saying the contractor had assured the administration that the project would be ready for commissioning in December.
The minister explained that the 10-kilometre road project, which includes interchanges, had remained unfinished since its award in 2014 due to successive delays.
He said the contractor had committed to completing six kilometres of the road and key interchanges before the end of the year, subject to the release of adequate funding.
Wike added that the completion of inherited projects such as the Apo-Karshi Road and ISEX Road reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to continuity and infrastructure development.
He argued that responsible leadership requires completing projects that benefit citizens rather than focusing only on initiatives started by a particular administration.
The minister said abandoned projects slow development and waste public resources, stressing that completing critical infrastructure remains a priority of the FCT Administration.
