Meghan Markle Reportedly Dealing With ‘Mixed Emotions’ About UK Return After Past ‘Deeply Painful’ Experience
As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s prepare for relocation to the UK, a former close friend of the duchess revealed she likely has “mixed” feelings about the move.
However, they noted that Meghan is now better equipped to deal with life in the UK, as she returns as an independent businesswoman.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry remains eager to reconnect with King Charles, whose health condition adds urgency to the duke’s reconciliation efforts.
5As reports of the Sussexes’ return to the UK begin to emerge, a former friend of the duchess has come out to shed light on how the couple could handle being back in Britain with the rest of the royal family.
Speaking on the return, via Café Casino, UK-based TV presenter and PR specialist Nick Ede shared insights on Meghan’s feelings regarding the move, which has left many stunned.
He stated that being back in the country might be bittersweet for the duchess, as she would approach it with “mixed emotions.
“Britain was the setting for her wedding and one of the most extraordinary chapters of her life, but it is also associated with intense scrutiny, negative headlines and a period she has described as deeply painful,” Ede said.
He went on to explain that she would, however, be better able to manage being in the UK again because Meghan “would not be arriving as a new royal expected to learn an unfamiliar system.” This comes in contrast to some sources who believe the princess would be a “fish out of water.”
He said, “she would be coming back as an independent woman with her own businesses, profile and boundaries,” which could give the former “Suits” star more control over her experience upon return.
Ede believes some privacy and distance from royal responsibilities would enable the Duchess of Sussex to “engage with the UK on her own terms.”
The Duke’s Urgency To Reconcile With His Father Fuels UK Return With His Wife And Kids
5Unlike Meghan, her husband Harry has publicly revealed his desire to mend his relationship with his family. In a 2025 interview with the BBC, the prince stated that he would “love reconciliation” with his family.
PR expert Ede believes that Harry’s presence in the UK upon return could yield significant progress in their relationship.
He said, “Reconciliation rarely happens through one dramatic summit; it normally develops through repeated, private and relatively ordinary contact.”
The TV presenter notes that proximity with the king would allow the monarch the chance to have a more personal relationship with his grandchildren, rather than only seeing them on rare occasions.
The king was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in February 2024 and has been receiving treatment ever since. The condition has given the prince more reason to prioritize reconciliation with his father.
Ede explains that “The King’s health will undoubtedly have sharpened Harry’s awareness that time is precious.” He continues, noting that their recent reunion at Highgrove House in July helped “thaw” relations.
Prince William And Kate ‘Cautious’ Of Prince Harry And Meghan
5Speaking about the inevitable reunion between the Sussexes and the Waleses, Nick notes that the Prince and Princess of Wales would act cautiously.
He stated, “William and Catherine are likely to be extremely cautious. They will want to protect the stability of their own family and avoid being drawn into another cycle of speculation, private conversations becoming public and every interaction being analyzed.”
The relationship between the two young royal families has been marred by various incidents, one of which is the incident in 2018 where it was alleged that the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex fought over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress, which eventually brought both to tears.
A Genuine ‘Fab Four’ Reunion Feels Highly Unlikely
5The alleged fights were not just with the royal ladies, as Harry and William were also said to have gotten into a physical altercation over their growing differences.
This confrontation, detailed in Harry’s 2023 memoir “Spare,” got violent, as the future king reportedly grabbed his brother’s collar and knocked him to the floor.
The PR specialist noted that with Harry and Meghan’s UK return, both young royal families would likely have appearances together, but a true reconciliation remains far off.
He said, “I wouldn’t rule out seeing the four of them together eventually, particularly at a major family or royal occasion, but a genuine ‘Fab Four’ reunion feels some way off. That phrase belongs to a very different chapter in their lives.”
What’s Next For The Royal Family Now That Prince Harry And Meghan Are Finally Returning
5With the relocation to the UK already a done deal, interest in the practical details of the family’s return has gained attention.
Meghan and Harry’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are reported to start school in Britain this coming September, which suggests the move is meant to be for a lengthy period of time.
As for the rest of the family, King Charles reportedly welcomes the chance to see more of the family, although their status as non-working members of the royal family remains unchanged.
Whether their return and designation as private citizens will lead to a proper reconciliation with the Prince and Princess of Wales will only become clearer after the Sussexes have been properly settled in the UK.
