The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to present the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly.
Naijaonpoint understands that barring any last-minute changes, the Governor will present the budget figures to the lawmakers today, 10th July, at the Assembly Quarters Auditorium.
A Government House source, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly, confirmed that preparations had been concluded for the presentation.
“Today is the D-Day. That thing you, in particular, have been looking for will happen today. The governor will present his budget,” the source said as quoted by New Telegraph.
A separate source within the House of Assembly also confirmed that lawmakers would convene on Friday, adding that the governor was expected to present the 2026 budget during the sitting.
“The House is sitting today, and the governor will likely appear before the lawmakers to present his 2026 budget,” the source said.
The prolonged delay in presenting the 2026 budget was widely linked to the political dispute between the executive and the House of Assembly in Rivers State.
During this period, Governor Fubara relied on the constitutional six-month provision that allows expenditure in the absence of a new appropriation law, but that window expired on June 30.
However, observers believe the recent approval of the state’s 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) by the Assembly created the legal and procedural basis for the governor to submit the appropriation bill.
Many stakeholders also view the latest development as a sign of improving relations between the executive and the legislature after months of political tensions.
