Gov. Umo Eno Approves Hazard Allowance for Additional Government Journalists in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the payment of hazard allowance for government-employed journalists who were previously not included in the scheme.The governor announced the approval during a courtesy visit by the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Uyo.

Eno said the allowance should be extended to all eligible government journalists, particularly those who work extended hours, including members of the Government House Press Corps. He directed the Head of Civil Service to ensure the immediate implementation of the approval.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and the continued development of the state. He also highlighted the recent acquisition of 20 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and commended the NUJ for its partnership with the government.Eno urged journalists to continue supporting the state’s development initiatives, particularly efforts to promote tourism.

Responding on behalf of the union, Akwa Ibom NUJ Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, thanked the governor for his support for journalists and acknowledged initiatives undertaken by the administration, including the renovation of the NUJ Press Centre and the appointment of journalists to public offices.The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Civil Service, commissioners and other government officials.
