The Legacy faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s constitution and existing structure, alleging attempts by some individuals to take control of the party’s leadership in the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, the faction’s chairman, Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, said the group would resist any action it believes undermines the party’s constitutional processes and internal democracy.
The statement, jointly signed by Mustapha, former National Organising Secretary Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman, and State Secretary Victor Oluwatuyi, traced the formation of the Kaduna ADC coalition to March 2025 under the leadership of Dr. Salihu Lukman. It outlined the composition of the coalition committee and the involvement of party stakeholders in the process.
The faction alleged that some members of the coalition later sought to assume control of the party’s structure. It said any attempt to sideline the recognised state executive would be challenged through lawful and constitutional means.
The group urged party members and the public to recognise only statements issued by what it described as the ADC Legacy leadership in Kaduna State.It also cited a resolution of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which it said extended the tenure of party executives pending the establishment of caretaker committees where necessary.
Reaffirming its readiness for the 2027 general elections, the faction called for unity within the party and said it remained open to accommodating new members while working to strengthen the ADC’s structure in Kaduna State.
