Ikeja Metro Lions Club has donated a giant waste bin to market men and women at Sunday Market at Ogba, Lagos State, in the bid to improve sanitation and waste management at the market.
The event took place on July 29, 2026 and was the club’s first activity for the 2026/27 Lions Service Year.
Speaking at the event, the president of the club, Lion Ayobami Ojo, stressed the importance of a clean environment, adding that the club donated the waste bin in order to improve sanitation and waste management at the market.
He stated that the environment is one of the areas the club focuses on, adding that it is critical to keep the environment clean and preserve it for future generations.
“There is a need for us to keep our environment clean because it saves us from contracting diseases and falling sick,” he stated.
Lion Ojo urged Nigerians, especially the traders at the market, to keep their environment clean, adding that the government cannot do everything for them.
Also speaking at the event, the service chairperson of the club, Lion Adewale Tolulope Samuel, said that Lions Club International is a humanitarian organization that serves communities and complements the government to make society a better place.
He said Ikeja Metro Lions Club has been partnering the market in different areas, adding that the club has done one project or the other in the market in the past six years.
He expressed the hope that the bin will be put to proper use and improve sanitation at the market.
He tasked residents of Lagos State and the market people to ensure that they manage their waste properly.
He urged other organisations to join the efforts to keep the environment clean.
Lion Adetola Johnson, the immediate past president of the club, delivered a short talk on cleanliness and the need to keep the environment clean, adding that a good environment keeps diseases away.
However, Lion Mustapha Olajide, charged the traders to keep the environment.
Alhaji Olajide charged the traders to display the waste bin where members of the public can see it, appreciate the work of the club and possibly join the club and contribute to humanitarian activities.
Prince Ayodele Olofintuyi, representative of the iyaloja of the market, thanked the club for donating the waste bin to the market, adding that it will be put to proper use.
He lauded the club for partnering with the club and citing different projects at the market.
Olofintuyi was decorated as a member of the club at the event.
The traders thanked the club and promised to keep the market clean.
