“I’m Running Again” – Trump Sparks Reactions After Joking About Third Term, Unveils ‘Trump 2028’ Cap

  • President Donald Trump entertained guests at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner by joking about seeking another presidential term and unveiling a “Trump 2028” cap, despite constitutional limits preventing a third elected term.
  • The president also took humorous shots at members of the press, making his first appearance at the annual event after years of staying away.

U.S. President Donald Trump had guests laughing at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after joking about seeking another term in office, despite the U.S. Constitution limiting presidents to two elected terms. The president also surprised the audience by pulling out a red “Trump 2028” cap during his speech.

Speaking at the annual event in Washington on Friday, Trump mixed humour with political satire, taking playful swipes at journalists and his political opponents before making the unexpected remark.

He said, “To show just how much I care about the press and I want to save your ratings, I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States.”

After making the joke, Trump put on a red “Trump 2028” cap, drawing laughter from those in attendance. His comments were made in jest, as the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution bars anyone from serving more than two presidential terms.

The correspondents’ dinner, which celebrates press freedom, was rescheduled after being suspended in April following an alleged assassination attempt on the president. It also marked Trump’s first appearance at the event after years of skipping it during his political career.

Throughout his speech, Trump continued his long-running criticism of sections of the media while keeping the atmosphere lighthearted.

Addressing journalists in the room, he joked, “I know it was not easy finding shoes to go along with your bulletproof vest, which many people didn’t want to wear because they’d rather d+e than look 20 pounds heavier.”
