Public commentator Zekeri Idris has stressed the need for Nigerians to demand accountability from elected leaders, arguing that political office holders are public servants, not employers of the people.
While being featured on the advocacy program, “A Place At The Table” broadcasting on News Central, Idris said President Bola Tinubu works for Nigerians and should be addressed as an employee accountable to the citizens.
He also criticised ethnic politics, warning that tribal sentiments often prevent Nigerians from holding leaders accountable despite widespread hardship.
According to him, Africa’s progress depends on improving the quality of leadership and rejecting the notion of political “messiahs,” insisting that poverty affects people regardless of ethnicity.

“Tinubu works for me; he works for you, and you must speak to him like an employee. He is not your employer.
We can debate all we want but until we stand up and get leadership right, and we’re not looking for a Messiah. Let us completely forget those who are using a problem to solve a problem. In Nigeria it is tr!balism. They say things like oh they want to remove our person from power and even when you are suffering, you think that person is your person. Poverty does not know ethnicity…”
