Kaduna Court Hears Testimony in Alleged Criminal Intimidation Case Involving Journalist

An Upper Customary Court sitting in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State, on Monday heard the testimony of an investigative journalist, Mr. Achadu Gabriel, in a criminal intimidation case involving the owner of De Jay’s Guest Inn, Mr. Victor Balogun.
The case stems from a complaint filed by the journalist after he reported a security operation at the hotel in June 2025. According to the complaint, the journalist alleged that he received threats following the publication of the report. The defendant has denied threatening the journalist.
During cross-examination, Mr. Gabriel told the court that the defendant admitted contacting him by telephone but denied making any threats. He also testified that the defendant warned him not to return to the hotel.
Police prosecutor Ocheme Ambrose informed the court that the matter was scheduled for hearing, while the court subsequently adjourned the case until August 12, 2026, for further proceedings.The case followed a police investigation after the journalist reported the alleged threats to the Sabon Tasha Police Division.
The original report concerned a security operation at De Jay’s Guest Inn in Ungwan Boro, Chikun Local Government Area. At the time of publication, the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued an official response to the reported operation.The allegations against the defendant remain before the court, and no findings have been made. The case will continue at the next scheduled hearing.
