The management of Kogi State Polytechnic has suspended seven lecturers over allegations of sexual harassment and the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks.The institution’s Public Relations Officer, John Amos Onimisi, confirmed the development while speaking with journalists in Lokoja. Onimisi said six lecturers were suspended on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, while another was suspended over an allegation of sexual harassment involving female students.
He added that the institution’s disciplinary committee was investigating the allegations and that the outcome would be made available to journalists after the process.The development follows allegations by an unnamed source of renewed cult-related activities and other forms of misconduct on the campus.
The source also alleged that some female students had raised concerns about their safety and claimed that disciplinary measures introduced under the previous administration had been relaxed. One allegation involved a reported cult initiation near a female hostel in the early hours of the morning. However, the claim could not be independently verified.
The source further alleged that the sale of handouts and textbooks by some lecturers had resumed, placing additional financial pressure on students and their parents.The allegations could not be independently verified, and efforts to obtain further comments from the institution’s management, the rector and the PRO were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
