Passengers have been left stranded at airports in Abuja and Lagos after aviation labour unions grounded Air Peace flight operations on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The action affected the airline’s operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The industrial action was carried out by aviation unions, with support from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). Reports say the unions shut down or picketed Air Peace operations, leaving passengers unable to proceed with their scheduled flights.
The unions accused Air Peace of preventing some of its workers from unionising. They also raised concerns over the alleged non-remittance of the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) payable to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The development reportedly caused significant disruption to passengers at the two airports, with several travellers stranded as Air Peace flights were grounded.
Air Peace has since apologised to affected passengers over the disruption to its operations in Lagos and Abuja.
The NCAA has also intervened in the dispute, appealing to aviation unions to suspend the industrial action and return to dialogue in order to prevent further disruption to air travel.
