Lagos Imperial Lions Club Leads Tree Planting Drive To Promote Environmental Sustainability

In a renewed demonstration of its commitment to environmental sustainability and humanitarian service, the Lagos Imperial Lions Club, under Lions International District 404B6, successfully organized a tree planting exercise at Ogudu Senior Secondary School, Ogudu, Lagos, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

The initiative, which formed part of the club’s July service activities, brought together members of the Lagos Imperial Lions Club, teachers, students, school administrators, and other Lions members in a collective effort to promote environmental conservation and inspire climate-conscious actions among young people.

The exercise, held within the school premises, saw participants plant several trees while educating students on the importance of afforestation, biodiversity conservation, and environmental responsibility. The project aligns with Lions Clubs International’s global environmental focus, which encourages Lions worldwide to undertake sustainable initiatives that address climate change and protect natural ecosystems.

Speaking at the event, President of Lagos Imperial Lions Club, Lion Agatha Adesua Abiodun-Samuel, said the project was designed not only to beautify the school environment but also to create lasting awareness about environmental protection among the younger generation.

She explained that the future of the planet depends largely on the actions taken today, stressing that tree planting remains one of the simplest yet most effective ways of mitigating the effects of climate change.

“Today’s exercise is much more than planting trees; it is about planting hope, responsibility and a legacy for future generations. Every tree planted today will provide cleaner air, reduce the effects of global warming, preserve biodiversity and create a healthier environment for our communities.

“As Lions, we are committed to responding to the needs of society through meaningful and sustainable service projects. Environmental conservation is one of the global causes of Lions Clubs International, and we believe that engaging young people in initiatives like this will inspire them to become ambassadors for environmental sustainability.

“We are delighted to partner with Ogudu Grammar School because schools are ideal places to nurture values that will shape tomorrow’s leaders. We hope these trees will continue to remind the students of their responsibility to protect and preserve the environment wherever they find themselves.”

She further encouraged individuals, corporate organizations and community groups to embrace tree planting as a collective responsibility, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved through collaboration.

Also speaking, the Principal of Ogudu Grammar School, Mrs. AbigheElo Uzezi, expressed appreciation to the Lagos Imperial Lions Club for choosing the school as the beneficiary of the environmental project.

She described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it complements the school’s efforts to promote environmental education and responsible citizenship among its students.

“We are truly honoured to receive the Lagos Imperial Lions Club in our school for this remarkable project. Beyond the physical trees planted today, the club has planted the seeds of environmental consciousness in the minds of our students.

“Climate change is a global concern, and educating young people about environmental sustainability is one of the best investments any organization can make. This exercise has provided our students with practical knowledge that they will carry with them throughout their lives.

“On behalf of the management, staff and students of Ogudu Grammar School, I sincerely thank the Lagos Imperial Lions Club for this thoughtful intervention. She urged the students to take ownership of the trees by protecting and nurturing them, emphasizing that environmental conservation begins with individual responsibility.

The event was held under the campaign theme, “Together, We Plant Hope. We Grow a Better Future,” reflecting the shared commitment of both the Lagos Imperial Lions Club and Ogudu Grammar School to creating a healthier, greener and more sustainable environment.

The exercise concluded with a renewed call for increased collaboration between service organizations, educational institutions and communities in addressing environmental challenges through practical and sustainable initiatives.

Members of the Lagos Imperial Lions Club reaffirmed their resolve to continue implementing impactful service projects that improve lives and strengthen communities, in keeping with the Lions’ enduring motto, “We Serve.”
