The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Gombe Operations Office, in collaboration with the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (GOSEMA), has conducted a joint assessment of the recent flood and windstorm disaster that affected Zange Community in Dukku Local Government Area of the state.
The assessment team visited the affected community to evaluate the extent of the damage, identify the immediate needs of affected persons, and gather relevant data to support appropriate humanitarian interventions.
The exercise also provided an opportunity to engage with community leaders and affected residents to obtain firsthand information on the impact of the disaster.
The team assessed the level of destruction to residential buildings, public infrastructure, farmlands, and other means of livelihood caused by the flood and windstorm.
The findings of the assessment will guide the appropriate response, relief interventions, and recovery efforts by the relevant authorities. Speaking during the assessment, the team lead, Mr Mohammed Kachalla Musa (POII), reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to working closely with GOSEMA and other stakeholders to ensure that affected communities receive the necessary support.
He emphasised that the assessment is a critical step toward providing evidence-based humanitarian assistance to the victims. The Agency also urged residents to heed early warning information, avoid building in flood-prone areas, maintain proper drainage systems, and adopt disaster risk reduction measures to minimise the impact of future disasters.
