Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has condemned the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge, describing the act as criminal, barbaric and unacceptable, while directing security agencies to apprehend those responsible.
The governor, in a statement issued on Friday, said the state government would not tolerate any attack on critical public infrastructure, warning that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed that officials from the Office of Infrastructure had inspected the damaged bridge and confirmed that its structural integrity remains intact despite the vandalism.
He added that immediate remedial works would be carried out to protect the bridge’s columns and prevent further deterioration.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” the governor stated, assuring residents that the government was taking swift action to safeguard the facility.
He stressed that attacks on public infrastructure undermine government investments and pose risks to the safety and well-being of residents.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure across the state, noting that acts of vandalism and violence against public assets have no place in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu also called on residents to remain vigilant and support government efforts by safeguarding public facilities within their communities.
He urged Lagosians to promptly report suspicious activities around public infrastructure to relevant authorities, saying collective vigilance is essential to preventing further attacks.
The statement reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s resolve to preserve public assets and ensure that those responsible for acts of vandalism are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
