The Osun State Government has affirmed that Comrade Nurudeen Alowonle remains the substantive Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state, saying Governor Ademola Adeleke did not dissolve the union’s leadership.
The state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, in a statement on Friday, said Alowonle and his executive were appointed by the national leadership of NURTW under Comrade Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, in line with the union’s guidelines.
Alimi said the government’s attention was drawn to misrepresentations of the outcome of Thursday’s State Security Council meeting, where activities of the union in motor parks were suspended over security concerns.
He explained that the suspension followed the activities of hoodlums allegedly led by one Kazeem Oyewale, and was not a dissolution of the Alowonle-led executive.
“At no time did the state government dissolve the executives of NURTW at all levels. What the Security Council directed is the suspension of all activities of the union in our parks pending the restoration of peace,” the statement clarified.

The government said the parks remain open and directed security agencies to “flush out Asiri Eniba and his gang” from all motor parks, noting that he has no legal basis to operate there.
It added that once security improves in the parks, the NURTW under Alowonle will resume normal operations across the state without hindrance.
