The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Taraba State Chapter, has launched a voter education campaign aimed at encouraging young people to register, collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in elections.
The campaign, which featured a “5,000 Youths PVC Awareness March” in Jalingo, brought together youth groups, students, members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), civil society organisations, faith-based groups, traditional institutions, security agencies and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, NYCN Taraba Chairman, Hapson Haruna Babale, described the initiative as part of the council’s efforts to promote civic education and increase youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
He urged eligible young people to obtain their PVCs and participate peacefully in elections, adding that the campaign would be extended to tertiary institutions, local government areas and grassroots communities across the state.
Chairman of the Taraba State Youth Development Agency, Prince Gara Nongha, commended the initiative and pledged continued support for programmes that promote civic responsibility and youth inclusion.
Representing the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba State, Marvin Bandawa encouraged eligible residents to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. He also educated participants on voter transfer, replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, correction of personal information and online pre-registration procedures.The organisers said the campaign is designed to improve voter awareness and encourage greater youth participation in future elections across Taraba State.
