The National Association of Taraba State Veterinary Medical Students (NATSVMS) has appealed to the Taraba State Government to address challenges affecting veterinary medical education, citing concerns over training facilities, practical exposure and student welfare. The appeal was made during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of Taraba State (SGS), Chief Barr. Gebon Timothy Kataps, where the association presented a memorandum outlining issues affecting students’ academic and professional training.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the association’s vice president said inadequate facilities and limited opportunities for practical training were hindering effective learning and professional development. He urged the government to provide the necessary support to strengthen veterinary education and improve the learning environment.The students also called for closer collaboration between their association and relevant government institutions to ensure sustained attention to their academic and welfare needs.
Responding, Kataps commended the students for presenting their concerns through dialogue and assured them that the government would review the memorandum and engage the relevant ministries and agencies. He reaffirmed Governor Agbu Kefas’ commitment to improving education and supporting initiatives that promote agricultural development and youth empowerment.
According to Kataps, strengthening veterinary education is important for improving livestock production, food security and public health. He added that the students’ requests would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for consideration.The association expressed optimism that government intervention would improve the quality of veterinary education and contribute to the development of Taraba State’s livestock and agricultural sectors.
