One Year After Buhari’s Passing, Lalong Pays Tribute to Former President’s Legacy

Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong, has paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on the first anniversary of his passing, describing him as a leader whose legacy of patriotism, discipline and public service continues to inspire Nigerians.
In a statement marking the anniversary, Lalong said Buhari devoted his life to the service of Nigeria and remained committed to the country’s unity, accountability and development throughout his years in public office.
The former governor recalled working closely with Buhari during his tenure as Governor of Plateau State and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, saying the late president consistently supported efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, economic development and national cohesion.
According to Lalong, Buhari approached governance with sincerity, humility and respect for institutions, adding that his leadership reflected a commitment to placing national interest above personal considerations. He also highlighted what he described as Buhari’s contributions to infrastructure development, anti-corruption efforts, social investment programmes and the fight against insecurity, while acknowledging that every administration faces its own challenges.
Lalong urged Nigerians to honour Buhari’s memory by embracing discipline, unity and dedicated public service. He also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, calling on citizens to work together toward national development. He concluded by praying for the repose of Buhari’s soul and for comfort for his family and all Nigerians mourning the late former president.
