In a decisive move to strengthen safety consciousness and promote secure learning environments across Nigeria, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has officially launched its Safe Schools Club Initiative at the PCRC National Secretariat in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
The landmark flag-off ceremony was led by the PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Aramide Olaniyan, alongside key stakeholders including the PCRC Rivers State Chairman, Dr. Voke Emore; PCRC USA Coordinator, Chief Dr. Churchill Etuk; and the PCRC National Safe Schools Coordinator, Ambassador Samuel Akintoye. The event also drew the presence of distinguished members of the committee and other stakeholders committed to advancing school safety across the country.
Addressing attendees, the National Chairman reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to supporting the vision of the Inspector-General of Police in ensuring that schools remain safe, secure, and conducive for teaching and learning. He described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at instilling security awareness, discipline, patriotism, and community policing values among students from an early age.
According to him, the Safe Schools Club Initiative will serve as a platform to deepen collaboration between schools, parents, security agencies, and host communities, thereby establishing a sustainable framework to protect educational institutions from emerging threats.
In his remarks, Ambassador Samuel Akintoye outlined the core objectives of the programme, noting that it is designed to equip students with practical knowledge in personal safety, emergency preparedness, crime prevention, conflict resolution, and responsible citizenship. He added that the initiative would be implemented nationwide through coordinated state and zonal structures.
Also speaking, the Special Senior Assistant to the PCRC National Chairman on Civil Engagement, Comrade Bibi Oduku, described the launch as the beginning of renewed security attention in schools across the country. She revealed plans to engage credible community-based security outfits to collaborate with the PCRC in ensuring that schools provide safe and peaceful environments for learning.
Oduku emphasized that the initiative would foster trust and strengthen partnerships among community stakeholders, assuring that students and parents would no longer have to live in fear of insecurity within school environments. She commended the PCRC leadership and the Safe Schools Committee for their commitment to bringing the initiative to reality.
She further appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for his continued efforts in strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The presence of Dr. Voke Emore and Chief Dr. Churchill Etuk highlighted the growing national and international support for the initiative, with both leaders pledging to drive its expansion within and beyond Nigeria.
The launch of the PCRC Safe Schools Club Initiative marks the beginning of a nationwide campaign aimed at fostering safer educational institutions while nurturing a generation of security-conscious young Nigerians committed to peace, order, and community development.
