Nollywood actress-turned-evangelist, Tonto Dikeh, has sparked conversation online after sharing her thoughts on courtship practices among Christian men.
In a video posted on her social media page on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Tonto warned against using spirituality as an excuse to avoid putting real effort into relationships, especially when pursuing marriage.
She noted that some Christian men adopt what she described as a “low-effort” approach, relying heavily on spiritual declarations instead of building genuine emotional connections.
According to her, it has become common for some men to say phrases like “God told me you are my wife” without taking time to demonstrate intentionality or make meaningful gestures in courtship.
“This is a very funny topic, but it is one that we actually need to discuss. So, if you are a brother in the Lord, come forward; this is for you,” she said humorously.
She questioned why some church men assume women in the faith do not deserve thoughtful actions during dating, stressing that spiritual language should not replace effort. She further cautioned that statements like “God told me you are my wife” should not be used to justify emotional laziness or skip the process of getting to know a partner properly.
To reinforce her point, she referenced several biblical passages, explaining that genuine spiritual maturity should enhance a man’s conduct in relationships rather than reduce the standard of care and respect shown to women.
“A woman of God deserves to be cherished, respected, and treated with excellence. Spiritual maturity should elevate your standards, not lower them,” she added.
She concluded by urging Christian men to abandon shortcuts in relationships and embrace intentionality, effort, and responsibility when pursuing marriage.
