The family of Ibrahim Mbaya, the University of Jos graduate who was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Jos, Plateau State, has announced that he will be buried on Thursday in his hometown in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State.
His younger brother, James Mbaya, disclosed this in an interview with Punch, saying preparations were underway to transport the 25-year-old’s remains for burial.
James described the incident as a devastating loss, noting that their parents had been left heartbroken by the death of their first child and first son.
According to him, the family had high hopes for Ibrahim, whose dreams and aspirations were cut short.
“He had a lot of dreams that were unachieved. We are really disheartened about his death, but there is nothing we can do about it again; we just have to take it in good faith and hope that justice is done,” he said.
He described the deceased as a talented model, dancer and entrepreneur who had hoped to establish a fashion house and a restaurant.
The family appealed to the police to ensure that everyone involved in the alleged killing is brought to justice.
“Everyone involved in his death should get the punishment they deserve, although this won’t bring him back, but it is the best thing that can ever happen to the family after his tragic loss.
“The manner in which he died was very brutal and inhumane. Nobody should have gone through such inhumane treatment. I can never wish my enemy to be treated that way. Nobody should die such a brutal death. It is quite terrible and horrifying,” James added.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that Mbaya was allegedly lynched on Sunday at an off-campus apartment behind the City of David area along Ring Road in Jos, Plateau State.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident and announced the arrest of three suspects identified as Rinji Daniel Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear and Nensemka Fwanji in connection with the alleged culpable homicide.
Police said Mbaya, a Jos-based model, had attended a social event before spending the night at a friend’s apartment because it was too late for him to return home.
The following morning, his friend reportedly accused him of stealing a missing iPhone, claiming they were the only occupants of the apartment.
Although Mbaya initially left, he later returned after being asked to explain himself.
The police said he was allegedly confronted by his friend and a group of youths, who accused him of stealing the phone and allegedly assaulted him with sticks and other objects for several hours in an attempt to force a confession.
He reportedly lost consciousness during the assault, while a nurse who later examined him confirmed that he had died.
