White House: Donald Trump Was ‘Reflecting,’ Not Napping, At Senator Lindsey Graham’s Funeral
Donald Trump closing his eyes during his beloved pal, Lindsey Graham‘s memorial service, is not what it looks like, according to the White House.
On July 11, the South Carolina senator took his final breath after succumbing to a brief and sudden illness.
Trump, one of the last people to speak to Graham, gave a sentimental eulogy at the Washington, D.C., memorial that fans found offensive.
On Tuesday, Trump was among the political powerhouses present at the National Cathedral to honor Graham’s legacy. Shortly after getting off the stage, the president was spotted with his eyes closed.
Although Trump, who sat next to Vice President JD Vance, appeared to be dozing off, the White House, in a statement, slammed the narrative vehemently.
Speaking to People Magazine, spokesperson David Ingle defended the world leader, saying Trump “was reflecting on the loss of his dear friend Lindsey Graham, for whom he had just delivered a beautiful eulogy.”
Attacking the president’s critics, Ingle added that anyone who insinuated otherwise was a “depraved moron.”

Despite the White House’s insistence, fans online believe the president was asleep and couldn’t help but roast him. One tweet read, “Dozy Don strikes again. The WH don’t want people to believe what’s so obviously in front of them.”
“What a disgrace. He should have kept himself at home to nap. And he had the nerve to call sleepy Joe,” one fan blasted.
This user joked, “My meme collection is starting to grow out of control at the rate Trump keeps falling asleep at important events.”
Others, however, defended him, saying his tasking job as POTUS must have left him exhausted.
Donald Trump Once Said He Doesn’t Sleep Much
It comes as no surprise that the president’s team denied allegations of passing out given what he has said in the past about not being much of a sleeper.
Trump made the statement last year during Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to the Oval Office. When asked about his time management habits, the Republican, as seen in a clip shared by Forbes, answered:
“He [bin Salman] does not sleep much, and I don’t sleep much, I think we have the same schedule. Thinking about our countries.”
Trump then subtly shaded former president Joe Biden, whom he often calls Sleepy Joe, saying it was impossible to be a world leader and nap often.

3The president’s sleeping habits weren’t the only talking point from Sen. Graham’s memorial service.
Intense backlash surfaced online after a viral clip showed Trump’s gesture towards the late politician’s coffin. While walking off stage after his speech, the 80-year-old passed by the senator’s casket but not before tapping it twice.
Soon the internet was divided, with some labeling it “disrespectful” while others defended it as a common gesture during funerals.
“A man devoid of any empathy has no idea how to show compassion during a man’s funeral. So sad and pathetic,” one harsh comment read, per The Blast.
A supporter noted that touching the casket is an act often done to bid farewell to deceased loved ones.
Allegations Of Trash Talk Fly Launched At The President
3The Republican leader also made headlines for his 14-minute eulogy rendered to Graham, where he disagreed with his own speech.
According to The Blast, Trump highlighted a part of his tribute that read, “Virtually everyone, Republican or Democrat, liked Lindsey,” saying it was far from the truth.
While laughing, he quipped, “Well, not everybody. But it sounds good. He was a tough cookie, okay.”
Unfortunately, Trump’s honesty was far from appreciated by viewers who interpreted it as speaking ill of the dead. Many noted how he couldn’t even paint Graham in the best light despite the late senator’s loyalty until the very end.
Also in his speech, Trump addressed his differences with the deceased, recalling how he once doxxed Graham, giving out his personal phone number.
Despite the inconsiderate act, the president noted that it was the start of a close friendship with Graham, as they would make phone calls almost every day, even until his final moments.
