Palestinian groups and organisations in Jerusalem have renewed calls for mass mobilisation and a strong public presence at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound amid growing concerns over increased settler activity and plans by extremist groups that they say aim to impose new Judaization realities at the site.
Jerusalem-based organisations urged Palestinians to increase their presence and attend Friday prayers at the mosque, saying the move is intended to help protect the site, preserve its Islamic and Arab identity, and counter what they described as attempts to undermine its status.
The appeals were directed mainly at Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem and inside Israel, as well as those from the occupied West Bank who are able to reach the city, encouraging them to maintain a continuous presence at the mosque compound.
According to the organisers, the campaign aims to reaffirm the site’s Islamic identity in response to what they describe as Israeli efforts to alter Jerusalem’s historical and cultural character and reshape its historical narrative.
