The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has asked the Federal Government to clear all outstanding payments owed to federal workers, approve a new national minimum wage of ₦300,000.
In a statement released on Monday, the forum’s National Coordinator, Andrew Emelieze, said the government should pay the two-month wage award that has remained unpaid since June 2024.
Naijaonpoint reports that he also called for the settlement of arrears linked to the 40 per cent peculiar allowance and every outstanding payment connected to the implementation of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage for federal workers.
Emelieze said workers were struggling to cope with the country’s economic situation and urged President Bola Tinubu to review salaries across the federal public service.
According to him, the forum is asking for a minimum wage of ₦300,000, while officers on Grade Level 17 should earn a maximum salary of ₦1.5 million.
The forum also raised concerns about the welfare of correctional officers.
Emelieze alleged that many officers buy their uniforms, boots, belts, rank badges and other official items with their own money instead of receiving them from the authorities.
He further claimed that officers sitting for promotion examinations were made to contribute money for the welfare of examiners.
He added that similar practices were also taking place in the Federal Fire Service.
The group called for an independent investigation into the alleged collection of money during promotion exercises.
It also asked the government to improve the welfare of correctional officers and other paramilitary personnel.
