Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, surpassed a World Cup record held by Fritz Walter and Gunnar Gren after his side’s semi-final 2-1 win against Argentina on Wednesday.
Recall that Messi provided two assists as goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez gave Argentina the victory against the Three Lions.
Argentina will now face Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday.
However, at 39 years and 21 days old, Messi became the oldest outfield player to make an appearance in a World Cup semi-final, beating previous record holders Walter and Gren, who were both 37 years and 236 days old when playing against each other for West Germany and Sweden respectively in 1958.
The Inter Miami forward has scored eight goals and provided four assists at the World Cup so far.
