World Cup: Spain victory demonstration of resilience – Enugu State FA Chairman

Mr Tony Ugwu, Chairman of Enugu State Football Association says Spain victory against Argentina in Sunday 2026 World Cup finals shows that the team was more resilient and coordinated.

Ugwu who was a former Chairman of Nsukka Local Govenment Council said this in Nsukka on Wednesday in an interview with our correspondent while reacting to Spain’s FIFI World Cup victory on Sunday July 19, 2026 at New York/New Jersey Stadium.

He said the two teams in the finals gave good account of themselves that made the.match entered extra time after 90mins where
Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in 106th-minute of the match.

“Everybody who watched that finals knows that Argentina and Spain gave good account of themselves but Spain was more resilient and coordinated that made the team lift the coveted trophy.

“The victory of Spain defeating the defending champions erupted in massive celebrations by their fans both at New York/New Jersey Stadium the venue of the final and at home because of tension the match created ” he said.

The FA Chairman noted that African countries that participated in the tournament tried their best especially Morocco that reached quarter finals

He however expressed concern that Super Eagles of Nigeria did not qualify to participate in the just concluded FIFA World Cup.

Ugwu urged Federal Government and relevant stakeholders in the country to ensure early preparations and necessary supports that would not only enable Eagles to qualify for the next edition of FIFA World Cup but win the coveted trophy for the country for the first time.
