The Kebbi State Police Command has detained a 29-year-old resident of Zuru Local Government Area on suspicion of ritual desecration of a religious text.

Abubakar Musa was arrested in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious materials, use of incantations and spells, and inciting public disturbance.

According to a police statement issued Friday, the alleged incident occurred on August 9, 2026, at approximately 7pm in an area of Zuru.

Preliminary investigation indicated that Musa allegedly conspired with two other suspects, identified as Rabi’u Tela and Hamza Zango, who remain at large.

Police alleged that the suspects excavated a pit within a residential space and interred a copy of the Holy Qur’an alongside semen, coloured nuts, undergarments, deceased animals and materials described as fetish items.

The alleged action was reportedly intended to increase a woman’s compliance toward her spouse.

Police stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident possessed potential to provoke communal discord among Muslim residents.

Investigations continue to apprehend the two fleeing suspects. Musa remains in police custody pending court charges following investigation completion.

The state’s Police Commissioner condemned the alleged conduct and cautioned individuals against actions threatening religious cohesion and public stability.

He stated the command would address decisively and lawfully any individuals whose actions compromise religious harmony, public order and peaceful coexistence.
