  • She paid ₦125,000 for the plan and said she had only 91.45GB remaining by August 27, 2026.
  • Adams is demanding a detailed breakdown of her data usage, including when and how the deductions occurred, the volume consumed in each session and the applications or services responsible.

A Nigerian lawyer, Zaenab Olawunmi Adams, Esq., has sued MTN Nigeria over the alleged rapid depletion of her 800GB annual data plan.

Adams, a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, said she subscribed to the plan on May 15, 2026, for ₦125,000 but had only 91.45GB remaining by August 27.

According to her complaint to MTN customer care, about 708.55GB had been depleted within approximately 104 days, leaving her with only 11.4 per cent of the original allocation.

Adams questioned how such a large volume of data could have been consumed within the period, particularly as the subscription was an annual package.

The lawyer said she has been an MTN subscriber since she was 10 and does not consider herself a high-volume data user.

She explained that her internet activities are mainly carried out on a single mobile device.

“I do not use multiple devices on the line, I am not a gamer, and my ordinary internet usage is substantially limited to routine activities such as social media, messaging, browsing and other personal online activities on a single mobile device.”

Adams is demanding a detailed breakdown of how her data was consumed between May 15 and August 27, 2026.

She wants MTN to provide the date and time of each data-consumption session, the volume deducted during each session and a chronological record of her data balance.

She also requested information on the applications, services, categories or destinations responsible for significant deductions, where technically available.

The legal practitioner said the speed and extent of the depletion raised concerns that required a technical and account-level investigation.

She is seeking a transparent reconciliation of the reported 708.55GB consumption and an explanation from MTN Nigeria on how the deductions occurred.
