Osun State Governor, **Ademola Adeleke**, has secured re-election after defeating his closest challenger, **Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC)**, in Saturday’s governorship election.
The State Returning Officer, **Prof. Joshua Ogunwole**, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, declared Adeleke the winner at about **7:24am on Sunday**, after the results from the 30 local government areas were collated.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the **Accord Party**, polled **511,067 votes**, while Oyebamiji of the APC recorded **444,815 votes**.
The result gave Adeleke a margin of **66,252 votes** over his closest rival.
### **ADELEKE TAKES 19 LGAs**
The incumbent governor dominated much of the state, winning **19 local government areas**, including several key political strongholds.
Adeleke won in:
* Ede North
* Ede South
* Ejigbo
* Iwo
* Egbedore
* Ife North
* Ife East
* Ife Central
* Oriade
* Ifelodun
* Orolu
* Ayedaade
* Ayedire
* Odo-Otin
* Boluwaduro
* Ilesa West
* Ifedayo
* Osogbo
* Ayedire
The APC candidate, however, secured victory in **11 LGAs**: Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun, among others.
According to the official declaration, **1,010,684 voters were accredited** for the election.
The total valid votes stood at **985,079**, while **207 votes were rejected**, bringing the total votes cast to **1,005,800**.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, **Najeem Salaam**, finished third with **17,180 votes**.
Other parties recorded significantly lower figures.
After the political parties’ agents signed the collated results, Prof. Ogunwole formally returned Adeleke as governor.
> “That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 Governorship election and returned elected,” the Returning Officer declared.
The result gives Adeleke another term at the helm of Osun State and represents a significant setback for the APC’s attempt to take control of the state’s government.
It also marks a decisive victory for Adeleke after a fiercely contested campaign that saw the ruling party and opposition parties mobilise heavily across the state.
**With 511,067 votes against the APC’s 444,815, Adeleke has now secured another four years to lead Osun State.**
