The Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Foundation (BAAF) has officially announced the granting of a scholarship to 17-year-old Miss Paradise Nwaozuzu, a resident of the Ihiagwa Community in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The foundation announced the scholarship at a brief ceremony held at Igolobiam Plaza in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Monday.
This scholarship aims to support Miss Nwaozuzu, who has successfully completed her secondary education and aspires to pursue a degree in Nursing at any public university in Nigeria of her choosing.
In a letter signed by Her Excellency Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the founder of BAAF, it was stated that the scholarship would take effect upon Miss Nwaozuzu’s admission to the university.
The letter further indicated that she would receive financial support of N500,000 per academic session, which is renewable for the duration of her program, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and good conduct.
Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu expressed that this scholarship represents BAAF’s investment in Miss Paradise Nwaozuzu’s future and serves as a means to promote excellence, creativity, and service.
She also expressed hope that the scholarship alleviates some of the financial pressures associated with Miss Nwaozuzu’s education, allowing her to concentrate fully on realizing her aspirations.
It is noteworthy that Miss Paradise Nwaozuzu composed a heartfelt birthday song in honor of Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu, coinciding with her 2026 birthday anniversary.
The Labour Party’s candidate for the Owerri Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election praised Miss Paradise Nwaozuzu’s creativity, talent, and initiative.
While emphasizing the emotional impact of the song, the former first lady remarked that beyond its melody and lyrics, she recognized in the work the promise of a young Nigerian girl with exceptional potential who deserves every opportunity to thrive.
In her response, Mrs. Nwaozuzu, the mother of the 17-year-old girl who was overwhelmed with joy, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the former First Lady for her generous gesture.
Mrs. Nwaozuzu conveyed the news to her husband via telephone, who also expressed his elation.
Miss Paradise Nwaozuzu was part of the 2025 cohort of participants in the BEMORE Summer Boot Camp, which is organized annually by the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, a signature initiative of Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.
